About

Who we are

An author-first publishing house, specializing in dark fiction.

Our vision

The goal is to specialize in the dark stuff—grimdark, psychological horror, visceral storytelling that makes gatekeepers uncomfy—while also doing special edition prints for cozy, comfy, noblebright genres. Because the thing we’re actually hungry for isn’t a genre. It’s an author. The author. You.

Don’t make it weird.

We want writers who are obsessive about their craft. Writers who revise until their fingertips bleed and then revise again. Writers who would keep writing even if no one ever read a word, because they can’t stop. The quality of the work matters—obviously—but we have great editors and developmental readers for that. What we can’t teach someone is how to care.

If you care the way I care, we should talk.

What We Won’t Publish

We built this press for the visceral, the bleak, and the transgressive—work that makes gatekeepers flinch. But “dark” does not mean harmful. We want work that disturbs with purpose.

We do not publish content that sexualizes minors in any context, for any reason, under any fictional framework. We do not publish sexual violence written as entertainment or spectacle. We do not publish racism, homophobia, antisemitism, ableism, or identity-based violence that is not examined with intent. We do not publish torture porn, or dehumanization without purpose.

We are also not a home for thinly veiled glorification of real-world atrocities, manifestos wearing a fictional skin, fetishized depictions of self-harm or suicide, or work that targets real individuals or communities behind the thinnest possible layer of fiction.

If the darkness in your story serves no function beyond making someone unsafe, we will reject it.

Meet the staff

Tiffany

Founder & Publisher

Tiffany is the Founder and Publisher of Nightingale Press. A serial entrepreneur and industry disruptor, she transitioned into the publishing world with a singular mission: to dismantle the stagnant barriers between great writers and their audiences. Having built and operated profitable businesses from the ground up, she brings a high-velocity, operational pragmatism to an industry traditionally defined by gatekeeping and slow-moving bureaucracy.

As the creator of the Nocturnal Narrator, Tiffany built a thriving community of thousands in under a year, proving that the modern reader craves the very thing the traditional industry refuses to provide—high-craft storytelling paired with a visceral, dystopian edge. She founded Nightingale Press as a direct response to a broken system, replacing predatory royalty splits and “query-slush” gatekeeping with an aggressive, author-first 50/50 model and prestige-level production.

An expert in immersive world-building and industry commentary, she is less interested in following trends than she is in creating the infrastructure to support those who push them. Tiffany  is an architect of communities and a defender of the writer’s labor, ensuring that for the first time, the “engine of the industry” is finally the one in the driver’s seat. She lives in Michigan, where she continues to develop the intersection of high-concept fiction and media-savvy professional standards.

Sal Price

Lead Editor & Creative Consultant

Sal Price is a writer, editor, and illustrator with both a B.A. and M.F.A. in Creative Writing. A Midwestern insomniac with too many ideas and too little Adderall, they find joy in playing with the building blocks of other people’s stories to try and help authors create the best castle (or haunted ruins) for their narratives. Sal’s own creations tend to favor the fantastical, be it endless portraits of D&D characters, a bedtime story of a housecat fighting fairies, or a screenplay of a pre-teen alien trying to fix her space ship, the only reality they’re grounded in is the couch that they make this stuff up on.

Birdie

Operations Coordinator & Liaison

Born in a Philippine fishing village, Birdie Falling is an NYC professional who attends formal dinners while pretending she isn’t familiar with shark diving or sneaking into diplomatic functions and aircraft carriers. So she writes stories inspired by her secret lives. Birdie is a fan of LitRPG and other adventure genres, grim or whimsical. Literary or fluff. She loves them all. Birdie comes from a family of musicians and artists, and is thrilled to do her part to coordinate operations and help amplify underground voices.

Johanna

Director of Design & Marketing Strategy

Johanna is a marketing strategist and generalist artist with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and a decade of experience navigating the corporate landscape. As a native German speaker and ESL writer, she approaches prose with a unique, linguistic precision, usually settling into the realms of speculative fiction and low fantasy. Johanna specializes in building worlds that mirror our own reality—until you look close enough to see the cracks. When she isn’t weaponizing her ten years of marketing expertise for Nightingale, she is likely writing poetry to communicate the pains that straight sentences can’t hold, or diving into her “nerd” passions for tech and cyber security.

Laura

Literary Stylist & Creative Consultant

Laura joined Nightingale after almost two decades of writing experience and one of informal developmental editing. Between a technical background that affords her a clinical outlook on narratives and her folk-infused Eastern-European roots, she can bring a unique perspective to your writing. As an author, she loves atmospheric speculative fiction inspired by overgrown gardens, old folklore, and the cobwebbed spaces that hide secrets almost forgotten. Her work blends introspective literary prose with dark low fantasy, generational curses, and the intertwining of womanhood with nature.
